Culture Shock ® Chicago’s outreach programs are designed to offer families and youth the opportunity to experience hip hop dance as a positive activity and an outlet for personal expression. We strive to create opportunities where youth can feel confident, empowered and successful by learning and performing hip hop dance.
We have proudly partnered with the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and the Alexian Brothers Women and Children’s Hospital. In addition, Culture Shock ® Chicago works with DEA Youth Dance Program (Drug Enforcement Administration), providing school assemblies and after school instruction, focusing on such positive themes as:
- Participating in positive alternatives to drugs and gang violence
- Building of self-esteem, teamwork
- Resisting negative peer pressure
- Focusing on positive health and attitude
Our youth programs include lectures/school assemblies, demos, panels and discussion forums about various aspects of hip hop culture as it relates to dance. We also offer youth instruction and end-of-workshop performance opportunities at these events. In addition, we perform at local not-for-profit events to help raise funds for charitable organizations.
As always, it’s not just about the performance for us….we work twice as hard to bring dance to our youth and families in our community and we are honored to help shape the next generation.
