For many people, the word “dance-a-thon” makes us think of spending 3 days on our feet to win cash hoping we’ll be the last person to collapse. Culture Shock San Diego is breathing new life into the dance-a-thon by mixing in a little ghoul, a little goblin, and a whole lot of Hip Hop within a much more civilized span of six hours. We are looking for 100 fun-loving participants who will be helping to raise pledge money for A Culture Shock Nutcracker in this Halloween-themed event October 25th at the Dance Center. Shock-a-THON! is fun for the whole family. “It’s a great value because there will be plenty of food and entertainment. Also, for people who love to learn hip-hop, they could end up getting 6 hours of workshops for free since you win cash if you raise more than $250 for the cause!” said Executive Director Cheyenne Kibblewhite. All participants are eligible for the cash incentive of $30 at the $250 pledge level and an additional $20 at the $500 pledge level. Sign-up and getting pledge money is easy. It takes 5 minutes to register for this event ($30) on the DoJiggy website and you pay with PayPal. Then in 10 minutes, you can send emails from the DoJiggy website to your friends for their monetary support. Your friends click on the link which takes them to your own fundraising page which DoJiggy sets up for you, and they use PayPal to donate. Prizes will be given for the last three dancers standing, highest fundraisers, and best costumes. Fall 2014 Troupe members are eligible for an additional competition. The top fundraiser gets 50% off Spring 2015 tuition and 2nd place gets 25% off. Since Culture Shock the professional team does not have tuition, should a member win, they will be given a gift card (WalMart for example). As far as what is offered at the dance-a-thon, there are two workshop tracks from which to choose. One is suited for teens and adults, and the other is for the younger folk. Dancing skill is not a major requirement – just no sitting and keep weight-changing from one foot to the other if you wish to win the “Last Dancer Standing” part of the competition. Sign-ups continue until Friday October 17th. Thanks in advance for taking the time and telling your friends all about this. The whole family can participate! A successful Shock-a-THON! will allow the troupe to wow audiences at The Spreckels Theatre this January 2015 with advances in their sets, lighting and sound.
