In the 2001, Margareta Chughtai (formerly Eysel) moved from San Diego, CA where she was a core dancer with Culture Shock®, to start Culture Shock® in New York. In 2002, Culture Shock®, Washington, DC (CSDC) was born with Ms. Chughtai as Artistic Director and Brian Resurreccion as the Administrative Director. From here CSDC grew with the addition of many new dancers, captains, and staff members.

CSDC produced the first East Coast Dance Competition (now known as ECDC) in 2004. ECDC has been successfully drawing dance fans, from selling out a 950-seat ballroom to selling approximately 1,200 seats at The Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. Recent free performances at Carter Barron Amphitheater have drawn crowds upwards of 1500 people.
